The Christian Race

Racing

1. Dedicated training
a. Training is a bigger effort than the actual race!
2. Perfecting of technique
3. Innovation to think of new technique
4. Determination
5. Endurance (willingness to endure to the end)
6. Ability to go beyond own perceived abilities
7. Costly
8. Fan support
9. Development of a strategy
10. Run with joy
11. Size up the competition and go for the prize!

Christian Race Heb 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off
everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race
marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set
before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3
Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

 1. Dedicated devotions/prayer/praise/worship/study/fellowship 1 Cor 9:24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 27 No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
    a. Study and prayer is bigger than the actual “things” we do “for” Christ

 2. 2Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

  3. Eph 1:15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22
And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

4. Gal 5:7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth?

5. Matt 24:13But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

6. Phil 4:13I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

7. Matt:13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

8. 1 Thess 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

9. James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

10. Acts 20:24 …neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

11. Phil 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
